Welcome to the Newark District Scout Website

Thank you for looking at our new and developing website. Newark has a well establish Scout District with 8 groups and 555 members. The Groups are Balderton, Coddington, Collingham, Flintham, Norwell, 6th Newark (Farndon), 7th Newark (Lovers Lane), and 9th Newark (Hawtonville). Each Scout Group has a Beaver Colony (age 6 to 8) a Cub Pack (age 8 to 10½) and a Scout Troop (age 10½ to 14). Six of the Groups also have an Explorer Unit. 6th Newark is a Sea Scout Group with Royal Naval Recognition and all the other groups are land Scouts.

The Scout Association is part of a worldwide educational youth movement. The values, which underpin and inspire its work, are embodied in the Scout Promise and Law and in the purpose of the Association. Within this framework the Association is committed to equality opportunity for all young people and we have many female members in most sections and groups.

We have a well balanced programme of activities to be both fun and challenging whist gaining skills for later life.

Scouting uses a Method which is young people in partnership with adults, enjoying what they are doing, learning by doing, participating in progressive activities, making choices for themselves, taking responsibility for their own actions, working in groups, taking increasing responsibility for others, taking part in activities outdoors, sharing in prayer and worship, making and living out their promise.

All sections are encouraged to take part in progressive challenges, outdoor, community, creative, global, fitness and promise.

Scouts completing all of these challenges at different stages are rewarded with chief scout awards, starting with the highest award for Beavers, The Chief Scouts Bronze Award and ending with the ultimate Scout Award, the “Queens Scout Award” presented by either our UK Chief Commissioner or our Chief Scout Bear Grylls.

The district also promotes the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Under instruction from our own instructors Newark Scouts can achieve their Bronze, Silver & Gold Awards. This scheme enables scouts and explorer scouts to achieve their higher Chief Scout Awards in combination with other key Partnership Awards, centred round the Environment, International, and Faith issues.

In 2011 two of our scouts are attending the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden, 49 Scouts will visit the World Scout Centre in Kandersteg, the Junfraujoch, and spend 14 days in Adelboden, Switzterland, but most importantly over 435 scouts will have a the great experience Scouting offers.

So if you want to join the adventure and be no 436 or if you are over 18 and would like to join our 120 strong team of adult leaders, assistant leaders, skill instructors, or helpers please contact us on wanttojoin@newarkscouts.org.uk

Any adult support can and will make a difference, we continually require new leaders and helpers, just one hour a month will make a difference.

Richard Moyses, District Commissioner, Newark Scouts
